Back in elementary school, my Dad and I built a treefort in the woods behind my house. It consisted of 2 triangular shaped decks staggered at 5 foot intervals from the ground- nothing fancy, just some platforms in the trees. I played for hours in it as a kid but used it less and less as I got older and it fell into disrepair....
Then one summer during high school my friends and I decided to revitalize the run down structure. And of course we couldn't just repair what was there, we had to add a new 3rd floor! This project kept us busy for a few high school summers until we all departed for college...
We returned home from college each summer with far greater engineering knowledge than before and soon found the treefort calling once again. So we answered with a new 4th floor as big as the previous 3 combined. Plans were made and work began again...
Fast forward a few years- and a few graduation ceremonies-and the 4th floor is nearing completion. While work continues at the top, the floors below have been left to suffer the ravages of time, their cries for repair falling upon deaf ears. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors are used mainly as a route to the grand new 4th floor. To complete the gentrification, a one of a kind spiral is planned to bypass the lower floors all together.
The following posts will detail the design and construction of this eternal, arboreal project.
One man's trash is another man's treefort
